Upstairs and downstairs 'Tales from Osborne' - Talk by Mark Earp
Friday 9th October 2026
In the Education Rooms at Osborne 11:00 (meet at 10:30)
Cost £7 ( to include a coffee and biscuit)
Mark was originally going to give the talk entitled 'Prince Albert on the IOW. Out of the Darkness and into the Light’ which covers the early lead up to Albert's arrival at Osborne. The talk looks at some of the things Albert did and created at Osborne; and finally the consequences and legacy of his early death.
However, Mark will now present his brand new presentation Upstairs and downstairs. 'Tales from Osborne', which will cover some of the same content. Additionaly it will include some of the material considered too sensitive, and therefore never published at the time. The talk leans heavily on three local memoirs of former staff at Osborne during the latter part of the queen's life. They all shared their memories, two of which were partially published and the other not.
Mark hopes that we will learn at least one new fact about life at Osborne that we did not know!
